Mountain Dog / Dutch Shepherd / Mixed Dog

Paisley/Felisa the Dog needs a home

Felisa, spayed female, 11 months old, 48 Lbs.

Felisa was born on the streets of Taiwan, and got a rough start in life. Her mama-dog, "Donna," found a local park where many people walked their dogs, and decided it was a safe place to have her puppies. A kind person built them a shelter to protect them from the cold. Donna was so amiable and delightful that everybody adored her and supplied her with food to make sure that her babies were well fed. In return, Donna showed her friendliness and generosity by letting everybody cuddle her new born babies. That friendliness made it all too easy for the dog catchers to take the puppies away! The neighborhood rescued the puppies, and found a foster home for them to stay with their mama.

Felisa is a beautiful, eye-catching brindle Formosan Mountain Dog mix, probably with Dutch Shepherd or Belgian Malinois. She is a happy, active, cuddly, playful, goofy, big puppy. Her birthday is approximately 1/15/16. Probably pretty close to her full adult size, she is 24 inches at the shoulder and 50 lbs of pure muscle. She would make a great hiking or jogging companion, and might eventually do very well at an activity like agility, or following a mountain bike or horse.
Felisa is on the submissive side, and she gets along splendidly with all other dogs. She will be able to convince even the most shy dog that it’s time to play! Very much a pack-oriented dog, she takes her cues and gets her confidence from the other dog(s) in her pack, and she needs to be adopted into a home with an already established dog / dogs. Cats are fascinating creatures which need enthusiastic investigation, but she is very respectful of their ultimate authority. Also, cows are funny big dogs that need to be wiggled and bounced at!
Felisa will immediately bond to her primary pack-person, and she will become a snuggly, licky, loving lap-dog. The other people-members of her pack will take a little bit longer, depending on their level of interaction with her, but the bonding will shortly follow. She will always be shy around strangers, and her new family will need to commit to good socialization and understand that she might need some extra time to check out the situation when she’s introduced to new environments with lots of people. She would do great in a house with adults or older kids, with frequent calm visitors to offer good socialization.
Felisa is smart and adaptable. She learns well by being talked to, watching, and thinking, rather than by rote repetition. She will learn the rules of the house by watching the other dogs. She is respectful of boundaries and limits, and is doggie-door trained. She knows basic commands and is enthusiastic about learning.
Felisa is in the San Fransisco Bay Area at her foster home now, waiting for her forever home. Contact AHAN now to get more information on Felisa, and find out if she is the right match for your household!
